Red Flags Indicating That You Still Have Rodents In Your Home

Having rodents in your house can be devastating, especially because even after you have applied DIY methods to eliminate the problem, you may not be certain that they are completely gone. It is also important to note that it is not always easy to know when these pests invade because they usually come out at night. However, you can look out for these signs to be certain that your home is rodent-free:

Fresh Droppings

While going about your business at your residence, if you spot dark and moist droppings, this is a red flag that your home could still be infested. You need to pay close attention to the size and shape of the droppings to be certain that they are from rodents, whose droppings resemble small brown grains. Generally, you will most likely spot these droppings in the basement, drawers, cupboards, and other dark, hidden areas.

Foul Odor

If there's a pungent or musky stench prevalent in your home, this is a warning sign that you have not eliminated these pests. The urine and droppings from these creatures produce a foul odor that permeates the area close to their nest site. Additionally, if you have pets, you may notice them pawing at the area because they are excited at the sight of the rodents. Moreover, the smell of a dead mouse or rat cannot go ignored because it is sharp and pungent. Unfortunately, these foul smells indicate an active infestation.

Tampered Food Packages

Rodents usually break into your home to find something to eat. To this end, they locate the foods stored in sealed plastic bags and attempt to rip the packaging off to access the food. Thus, you should inspect all the food packages at your home for any signs of torn wrappings or ripping. If you find any package torn or ripped, you should not consume the food or drink because it can be harmful to your health.

Scratching Noises

If you wake up in the middle of the night and hear the sound of rodents burrowing, scurrying, or scampering on the floor, cabinets, and other areas, this is a red flag that the pests are still active in your residence. You might even see a rat or mouse running around the house when you turn on the lights suddenly.

You need to look out for these signs to know whether your dwelling is still infested with rats and mice. If this is the case, entrust a pest control expert with the task of ridding your home of rodents effectively and for the long term.
